Description
Tactical K-9 Systems® Vest KurtUSA Mfg.
Developed by KurtUSA Mfg. in 2008 with guidance from the U.S. Army 7th Special Forces Group Multipurpose Canine Section, then located at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, the Tactical K-9 Systems® (TK-9S) Vest was engineered to meet the demanding requirements of military and law enforcement working dog teams.
The system underwent a 90-day evaluation and has since been purchased by more than 120 government agencies in the United States, England, and Australia. While many tactical canine vests are available today, the patented TK-9S Vest continues to stand apart through its versatility, durability, and innovative design.
Key Features
Universal, Transferable Design
Unlike custom-fit vests that are built for one specific dog, the TK-9S Vest is fully adjustable to fit most working dogs weighing approximately 50 to 85 pounds. The vest can be transferred between dogs as needed, allowing agencies to deploy equipment immediately without waiting for custom measurements or manufacturing.
Fast and Secure Entry
The vest can be mounted onto the dog from either the left or right side using two U.S.-made Class 4 zippers on each side, each rated to approximately 200 pounds.
Advanced MIL-SPEC Construction
The vest is constructed primarily from TP-21 MIL-SPEC mesh, selected for its:
- Water-resistant properties
- Mildew resistance
- Hypoallergenic characteristics
- Excellent airflow to help keep the dog cool
- Fast drying after exposure to water
Heavy-Duty Retention System
Security is achieved through:
- Two 1½-inch MIL-SPEC 17337 webbing straps, each rated to approximately 3,000 pounds tensile strength
- Four 1½-inch Cobra buckles, each rated to approximately 5,000 pounds
- A third retention strap running from the neck to the belly, providing additional security during demanding operations
Mission-Ready Features
- Hook-and-loop (Velcro®) panels on both sides and top for identification patches
- Three strategically positioned grab handles for maximum handler control
- Heavy-duty 8-gauge rear D-ring for leash attachment
- Rear retention straps designed to help secure the dog during aerial insertion, helicopter transport, or fast-rope operations
- Integrated cargo straps that allow the handler to carry the dog hands-free when necessary
- Optional camera mounting capability for systems such as Tactical Electronics/TSE cameras or GoPro® cameras (optional equipment available at additional cost)
Operational Advantages
The TK-9S Vest was designed to eliminate many of the logistical challenges associated with custom-fitted tactical canine equipment.
Because the vest adjusts to fit a wide range of working dogs, agencies can:
- Quickly issue the vest to another dog if needed
- Reduce downtime waiting for custom equipment
- Maintain operational readiness
- Stock standardized equipment for multiple canine teams
